Maps

mapsYou can look up the history of your house using maps.
The Charles Close Society has maps on their site. In the Maps section they have ‘Notable or Interesting Maps’
Their digital image section is interesting.

This page though is the most useful – put in your address and it’ll show a list of maps it features on! Some have links to them but others you might have to visit the British Library Maps room for.

This is discussed in the Restoration Home book that accompanies the BBC series. If you’re interested in researching the history of your own home it’ll be a useful reference and inspiration.

Police Maps update

I looked at these when they first came out. I’ve gone back to look again and see what’s changed in the last few months. You can view the crime data for previous months!
You can also click on the types of crime and it highlights these.

Crime and ASB in this area

This means you can look back at an area over time and build up an idea of what problems there are. It will help you avoid areas. They are a bit vague where they put the numbers though as to protect the identity of particular people, but they are fairly close.

Property Snake – useful and interesting

Property Snake keeps an eye on propertys – how long they’ve been on the market and what percentage they have been reduced.

You can search by postcode or area.

They don’t have complete records but it’s useful anyway!

Property Wizza – review

This is what the blurb says:
“PropertyWizza answers your questions in an instant. Want to know ‘what planning applications are in progress locally?’, ‘Is this house at risk of flooding?’ or simply ‘which is the best local pub?’ PropertyWizza is the house hunter’s best friend.”

So I’m testing it out. I have to try it in Chrome browser as they don’t have one yet for firefox. A pity as my current fave property search tool (Property bee) doesn’t have a chrome version!

Well I didn’t notice the button int he top toolbar at first – but when it’s red you can click it and get access to info. It looks really useful !

I’d say install it and see how much you use it! I’m certainly going to be playing with it for a while! It works by fetching the postcode for the property – as that’s what’s required on most of the sites it links to. The links open in a new window so you can click several and see all the reports.

If you’re serious about buying a house then you’ll find it very handy!
