The New Complete Book of Self-Sufficiency: The Classic Guide for Realists and DreamersWe went to the library a few times when I was a primary school . It was a car ride away and only open Saturday morning which wasn’t hugely convenient for my mum and dad as we only have one car and my dad often worked Saturdays. Bus wasn’t an option as they were seriously infrequent even then.
I used to adore book tokens and would spend hours in the shop picking the next book. The bookshop being open until later was do-able.

Luckily I had some amazing teachers at Primary who indulged my reading habit and allowed me to take more than one library book home at a time.

I’d have loved a kindle but made do with school and my own library. I also read everything my dad owned apart from his car maintenance books. I was a big fan of John Seymour and his guide to self sufficiency. I have that particular book on my desk now.

By the time I got to secondary school the problem was sorted, with more books to borrow and I was in town regularly on my way home to go to the main library or the shop.
