Nice description

estate agent speakInteresting description of this house
the estate agent writes:
“I have to be very careful where I use descriptive adjectives such as ‘immaculate’ as ones interpretation may differ from another’s but I defy anyone to say that it is not justifiable for this beautiful presented deceptive three bedroom semi detached house. To see a couple whom are so house proud and not just house proud but also garden proud makes my job a joy to do. “

The lawn is amazingly neat and the house is very tidy and decluttered!

How to make your house warmer

Tesa Insulating Film for WindowsChilly this morning and it’s got me thinking about how you can make your house warmer. If you’ve got a listed building or are in a conservation area you might not be allowed standard double glazing (or triple glazing!) so you might have single pane windows still. If you have then you could look at some of the window film insulation products available to help you make your home more cosy in the winter – Tesa Insulating Film for Windows, Transparent 4 x 1.5 Metre (Maximum)
is at amazon and allows you to wrap your windows internally to give them some extra insulation value.
It has the disadvantage of needing to be kept on until Spring and that means you’ll not be able to open windows if you’ve covered them all over, but you could do the separate parts of the window and use draft excluder tape to ensure the windo fits snuggling.

window insulation is simple, easy to apply and can make a difference to how warm you’ll be this winter. With rising fuel costs it pays to start looking at what you can do to make your house more insulated.
Even blocking drafts from doors and windows can make a big difference to how warm you’ll feel so why not start this today!

Sypathetic listing

Milton House I read this listing and felt that it offered sympathy for the building. It’s a listed one in need of some TLC to bring it up to it’s full potential but it’s very lovely all the same. They’ve taken lost of photos of the features inside but not over-glossed it – it will need work which is listed and it strikes me as a very honest way of listing a property.

It’s a 7 bedroom house in Milton Damerel – a former vicarage!

The obvious potential of this property is there for all to see and I think this will be a really wonderful house given some love and attention. It’s a great size too! It is grade 2 listed and has lost of really amazing features like a 16th century fireplace, flag stoned flooring and original shutters
If you’ve always wanted to restore a beautiful building then Milton House might be the one for you.

Why landlords have no excuse not to insulate

It’s shocking some of the a stories people tell of landlords refusing to put in even basic insulation in lofts, let alone cavity walls.

There’s no reason why they shouldn’t as there are grants and schemes available.
The Landlord’s Energy Saving Allowance page at Direct Gov is worth a look – if you’re renting and think your house needs more insulation then send the link to your landlord.

LESA is a tax allowance (not a cash payment) that allows you to claim up to £1,500 against tax every year.

Part of me wonders what other businesses are subsidies like this though.

Why use paint?
Paint is cheap and effective at changing how your room looks.
It’s easy to paint! You just need brushes, a roller makes it quicker, and a ladder so you can reach the top of the walls.

It’s sensible to start doing round the edges with a brush and then fill in the colour. Read the instructions on the paint tin before opening it. Some paints need stiring and some don’t!
Amazon also sell Disposable Shoe Covers which can help you from walking paint on carpet in other rooms! They also have a massive range of brushes and rollers to make the job of painting easier.

Don’t forget if you’re in rented accomodation to get permission in writing from your landlord before repainting!
