Garages

garagesIt struck me the other day that there are quite a few very expensive houses for sale that don’t have a garage! I’d imagine if you’re buying an expensive house that you have an expensive car – so you’d want to put it in a garage at night!
There’s also a suprising number of houses that have a garage – across the price range – but don’t show you the garage at all!
Here’s one house in Northgate Lane, Linton, Wetherby which is in West Yorkshire that has a garage and even shows it you! This one also has a nice gym and pool!

When you’re selling a house you should include a photo of the garage if it’s neat and tidy. Some garages are stuffed full of junk but part of the moving process should be to declutter and put items into storage. If you have a full garage stuffed with boxes and piles of junk then it’ll look like you have no storage space in the house at all.

Whilst a huge number of people don’t use their garage for their car even if they have one – you do get cheaper car insurance if you do. (It’s one of the questions they ask about where do you keep your car at night). So ensure viewers can see how much room there is in the garage – let them imagine it full of their own cars or junk and not yours!

Help my house is falling down

crack in wall Another epiosde last night where they managed to find extra money and finished the house off really nicely (Well almost finished it!)
Help my house is falling down seems to be very formulaeic – a couple buy a house (usually it’s the woman who has decided it’s the house of their dreams) and then they discover it’s falling down.
This one was scary – a victorian concrete house that was made with pig iron and scrap which was decaying as the walls got wet and causing the concrete to break up.
Concrete may come across as a very modern product but it’s been around for ever!

This site says that Romans had been building with concrete since about 200 BC

It says they got a survey – and structural report!

New housing show from Channel 4

Architect George Clarke leads Empty Homes Campaign

Does your area need better housing conditions? Want to do something about it?

Channel 4’s George Clarke is presenting a new TV series which will campaign on housing issues across the UK. The campaign offers you the chance to share your housing problems and join the search for solutions.

Across the country high rental costs, long waiting lists for council houses and difficulty getting mortgages are forcing many people to live in cramped conditions, stay with friends or family, and give up the dream of owning their own home.

It’s been described as a national housing crisis – ordinary families are being priced out of the market and there are 5 million people on the house waiting list. Yet, a million homes in this country lie empty. George’s campaign aims to combat the housing crisis, and one of the key questions we’re asking is: Could empty homes be put to better use?

If you, or anyone you know, is struggling your housing situation, or want to find out more about the campaign, contact the Homes team:

Alderley Edge – footballers pad?

neon breakfast barThis posh pad in Alderley Edge is pretty spectacular if you like neon

There are several other rooms with neon lighting in. I don’t like it. It’s all too shiny and modern for me. For £3,995,000 I’d want a huge swimming pool, gym and loads of land. All of which I can get for that much easily in Devon! However Alderley Edge is an expensive area partly due to all the footballers living there. They’re welcome to it!
