Higher Eggbeer Farm

The farm has not
Higher Eggbeer Farm is half a mile to the Southwest of Cheriton Bishop, in the Dartmoor National Park.
The farm has not been on the open market since the 1950’s and having also been tenanted it retains its special medieval, vernacular and unspoilt character. It is not surprising therefore that the farm was used as the setting for the 2000-2005 BBC One TV series of ‘Down to Earth’ based on Faith Addis’ books of their real-life move from London to Devon.

This picture makes reminds me of visiting a farmhouse down the lane from my gran’s when I was a kid. It’s a lovely homely entrance hall to a house.

Former Rectory

A splendidly situated, substantial
A splendidly situated, substantial 5 bedroom former rectory, set within just over 2 acres of gardens and paddocks and located in the sought after hamlet of Thorne St Margaret. A further 10.33 acres of adjacent pasture land available as well as a nearby farm yard with an extensive range of buildings and productive pasture land totalling about 14.34 acres. Available as a whole or in three lots.

The Old Vicarage, as shaded blue on the plan, is an attractive Victorian former rectory, occupying a prominent and peaceful south facing position and enjoying outstanding views across the rolling countryside to the Blackdown Hills.

I love old rectories. It seems clergy in the old days used to have pretty big houses. Only downside being they’re quite near churches which means Sunday mornings might be noisy if there are bells rung! Lovely location with this one and extra land available.

Stanford Court

• Extensive garaging• Air-craft
Stanford Court is the Crown Jewel of the Teme Valley, the ancestral home of the Winnington family, standing in over 40 acres with a view across its magnificent lake and formal gardens.
This is the hall! It’s massive! Probably bigger than most people’s houses!

• Extensive garaging
• Air-craft hanger
• Boat house
• Tennis court• 43.505 acres 17.606 hectares

Bloxworth House

Bloxworth House was built
Bloxworth House was built by George Savage in 1608 on an E shaped plan and can claim to be the earliest use of brick in the county. The house was bought by Henry Trenchard in 1689 and remained within the ownership of the Trenchard family and their descendents right up until 1964 when the Estate was sold. Bloxworth House was used as the home of Thomas Hardy’s heroine Bathsheba Everdene (Julie Christie) in John Schlesinger’s acclaimed 1967 film adaptation of “Far from the Madding Crowd”.

Lovely

Fancy a mill?

The Mill: This five
The Mill: This five storey mill was converted by the current owner in the 1960s and has seen little alteration since. It has been vacant for the last 12 years or so and used more for storage and therefore is in need of refurbishment. It has a living room on the ground floor, a kitchen floor, three bedrooms and bathroom over two floors and an upper floor with panoramic views across the roof tops of Diss to the north and fields to the south.

Portesham House is historically one of the most important houses in Dorset, being the former home of Vice Admiral Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy, who famously served as Flag Captain to Admiral Lord Nelson on HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, and to whom Nelson spoke the well-known words ‘Kiss me Hardy’ as he lay on his deathbed.

This is a lovely looking house.
